My name is Julie Lazzo and I am the owner of Struttin' Mutts here in Kansas City.  I am so excited about  finally getting to do what my heart knew I should have always done.  I had a traditional job but never really felt fulfilled or truly passionate about what I did.  It always felt as if something was missing.  I started this company out of a deep love that I have for animals and my desire to make a career interacting with them.  The best part is the unconditional, no strings attached love that they give.
 
Struttin' Mutts is a business idea that I have thought about for a long time.  I decided to keep it small so I can give each pet the individual attention that it wants.  There is nothing fancy here, just good old fashioned pet care for those of you who want to do it but can't because you are at work all day or out of town or whatever your reason; it doesn't matter, that's what Struttin' Mutts is for.  If I don't have something you are looking for, just ask, I can tailor my services to your needs.

I have had dogs my whole life.  I can't remember a time in my life that I didn't have at least one dog.  We always had two growing up and when one would die we'd get another.   Of course we'd all cry but having a new little puppy seemed to ease the pain better.  When I got married I was a little concerned that my husband wouldn't let me have a dog; he wasn't much of a dog person.  I think I fixed that!  No sooner were we married, I rescued a 5 day old puppy.  The vets didn't think she would live but we fed her formula through a bottle every two hours for what seemed like months and she grew into the most beautiful, best dog we had ever had! Even my husband says she won't ever be topped.  A few years later we rescued a German Shepherd pup and the rest is history.  What do I mean by that? Well, they both have since passed away but we promptly searched the shelters and adopted two more.  We have a 2 year old black lab mix, Maya  and a 10 month old yellow lab, Maisy.  Both were adopted as puppies each right after we lost our first two.  I can't imagine my life without dogs, even if they eat my trees, bust through my fence, and dig what seem like hundreds of holes in my yard! 

I am also a volunteer at Wayside Waifs.  Wayside Waifs is a dog shelter in Kansas City that is unbelievable in SO many ways. I get to walk and play with all of the most precious dogs in the world.  This is extremely rewarding and really gives me a greater sense of purpose in my life. Please don't forget to check out the many shelters in the area if you are looking for a family pet, this is an invaluable resource!  Dogs of all ages are there waiting for you to love them and take them home, cats too!
